Abstract

The research investigated the relationship between job satisfaction and organisational commitment at a local University in the Gauteng Province of South Africa. The University has benefits and incentives that are supposed to, amongst others, motivate employees for optimal performance. The study was aimed at finding if employees of the institution are job satisfied and thus motivated enough to perform. The desire for this enquiry is based on the widely held belief that universities do not pay as much compared to private institutions.  Literature was reviewed to provide a detailed account on the relationship between job satisfaction and organisational commitment and performance at work. The research was quantitative in nature to determine job satisfaction and organisational commitment. A convenient sample size of (114) was utilised in the execution of this research. The sample was drawn from both administrative and academic staff of the institution. Data were collected with the aid of a job satisfaction and organizational commitment questionnaires. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26. Descriptive statistics were used to analyse data. Results of the study shows that employees are generally satisfied to work for the university hence it seems to suggest that they are also committed to work for the university under study.
